Hitting the iNail on the iHead

Every day there are more and more articles being posted on the Internet about how the new video iPod will be taken over by porn. Last Friday, I was even contacted by a reporter at NY Daily News to get my opinion on whether porn will become popular for the iPod. From this, I have determined that it’s time for me to publish my opinion.
The Playstation Portable (PSP) has been out on the market for quite some time now. In my past 7 months as a sex blogger, constantly monitoring the news, I have yet to see much interest over whether the existence of porn for the PSP will become a problem for the moral ‘majority’. In fact, there are so many sites that offer free porn for the PSP, that Sony issued a press release saying that “It is utterly undesirable, but we cannot stop software makers from selling such videos“.
So why does everyone suddenly care so much about the new video iPod? Are people afraid that iTunes will allow porn to be sold in their music store or are people upset that the porn will be downloadable for free? It seems that people are assuming that just because it is possible to watch porn on the iPod, people will be watching it in public places… has anyone heard of this happening with the PSP? I certainly haven’t.
Welcome to Hype City, USA. Home of the war on terror.
It is true, however, that there have been numerous incidents of people watching porn DVDs in their cars. In fact, some states and trying to make a major crackdown:
Some municipalities have taken up the similar issue of people accidentally seeing porn on someone else’s in-car DVD player. This year, Tennessee outlawed the display of obscene movies from a car, and the City Council in Flint, Mich., passed a measure imposing a $500 fine on drivers who play pornographic movies in their cars.
Similarly, ‘concerned Christian’ parents’ groups are afraid that people who watch porn on the iPod will be exposing children to hardcore sex at an early age… I’m sorry, have these people seen the size of a video iPod screen? The truth is that children will probably see it anyways, why worry about the iPod so much? On my last trip, I was reading Playboy’s October issue in public on my flight… I doubt anyone even noticed.
Well, Wired hit the nail on the head this morning with their article on porn for the video iPod. They say that porn producers are actually staying away from formatting films for the video iPod because they are afraid of further scrutiny from the government and parents’ groups. This isn’t to say that they will stay away forever, but that they need to establish safeguards (eg. credit card age verification) in order to gain respect from those who want to shut them down.
Wired also interviewed the chairman of the Free Speech Coalition to see what he had to say on the topic:
“The real problem is, there is a small group of people who believe that any sexually oriented material is an offense to God, and they have a great sway with Congress, which is already hostile to the material,” he said. “Unfortunately, citizens who like to watch people have sex — and there are many more of them — do not flood city hall and say, ‘I don’t want to make it harder to access that material.’”
That’s what I’ve been saying for months. It’s not that everyone agrees that porn should be banned, it’s that porn-watching is so taboo in our culture that to speak out against the anti-porn groups is to embarass oneself.
Now, if I was a parent… I would be more concerned about porn on the PSP. The PSP is something catering more to children than to adults. Remember, an iPod is not a gaming device… it’s an entertainment device. Even so, kids still have to learn how to put porn on their mobile devices… if anything it would help them learn how to read!
Sorry, kids, but don’t expect a video iPod in your Christmas stocking this year!

I honestly believe that porn should be allowed if not encouraged on the iPod. why I’m allowed to have all the music I listen to or all the photo’s of g/f’s (past present and future) doing all kinds of sexual poses on my iPod photo, but the kicker is how many people would actually watch porn in public places with their iPod. and its not like I cannot convert my porn files to be viewable on my ipod, in fact I think (not sure but I can check in the matter of a week or so) that itunes will be able to convert the files for you, it certainly did with all my mp3’s.
anywho boo fundy’s, yay no undies
