The Blame Game

malestrippers

I blogged back in early September about two male American models who were found dead at the bottom of a quarry in Montreal. The problem that I was originally addressing was the fact that the media was being unclear over the fact that these men were working as strippers in Toronto.

Well, the mother of one of those ‘models’ has come out today to blame the sex industry for her son’s death. The problem here, though, is that as far as anyone can tell so far… there is no proof that the sex industry had anything with the deaths.

The theory to date is that the men stiffed a cab driver and as they were trying to get away from the car without paying, they ran into a quarry. It’s not the first time something like this has happened, I remember hearing a story about an escaped convict a few years ago who didn’t know that the police station was located right next to a quarry and after he hopped the fence, he too dropped to his untimely death.

So what other ‘proof’ does this mother have to show for her claim?

The mother apparently found the script to a film called “Dead Boyz Don’t Scream” amongst her son’s belongings. The company producing the film, however, has chosen a different actor for the axe-murdered role he was hoping to play. Besides… her son wasn’t killed with an axe in reality, so wouldn’t that allow the production company to get off scott-free? The police think so…

In addition to working as a stripper in gay strip clubs, the deceased has appeared in fitness magazines and pornographic films. Now, I’m sorry for this woman’s loss, but I’m also starting to think she’s going a little too far in her personal investigation. In yesterday’s interview, she was quoted as saying the following:

“I have my opinion that the (adult entertainment) industry is behind this in some way,” she said. “That is my opinion, and I will do everything I can to prove that.”

Well, now what happens if there is no proof? What happens if her theory turns out to be completely false?

As painful as it is to accept, it is possible that there is no one to blame for her son’s death. This woman is in serious need of a nice liberal agnostic shoulder to cry on (just please keep her away from the fundies…).

Interesting article. But one thing more to consider. The loss of a child under even the slightest hint of mystery is an almost unbelievable burden for a parent. It prevents any real closure - there is always the lingering doubt that mabye something, anything caused this, other than just a stupid, tragic accident or coincidence. I think for some it becomes an obsession bordering on mental illness. It never, ever goes away.

While I think her issue is moot - there will never be any proof for her to find, only an endless qixotic quest to exonerate her memory of her son’s death by affixing “blame” to someone other than him - I sympathize with her loss, and her obsessive need to somehow, anyhow, absolve her memory of him from the irreconcilable taint of “shit happens, and it happened to you this time.”

She’s looking for a reason, any reason, for her son’s death, and until she finds one, the one she has at hand will have to do.

I once had occasion to stay at the home of the mother-in-law of Darly Routier. You may not remember, but Darly Routier was convicted of stabbing to death her 4- and 6-year old children, and is on death row in Texas. To this day the mother-in-law maintains that Darly is innocent. She prefers the mystery - that a stranger broke in, stabbed everybody, and left without taking anything or leaving any physical evidence while Darly was sleeping upstairs.

You believe what eases your pain. This mother is no different.

Kit-Somone is always wanting to blame somone in loss’ like this. (death that is not porn) Just look at Cindy Sheeham. Its not right and we know this won’t be the last time. It is interesting that the media didn’t mention too much the fact these guys were strippers. Do you think if they had been females the stripper thing would have been in the news? This lady probably didn’t know or didn’t want to know what her son was into. Blaming the porn industry puts all the focus on them, and not this womans porn living son.
