So, everyone is talking about how Showgirls has the worst sex scene ever, but I completely disagree. The sex scene in Showgirls was one of the highlights of the movie especially in relation to Elizabeth Berkley’s acting skills. In fact, when I was a teenager, there weren’t many films that made me horny to the point of masturbating but Showgirls (along with classics such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula) certainly churned my butter.

It’s not that I don’t agree that the sex scene is far fetched (how many people do you know who do it that violently hard in a swimming pool?), it’s that I don’t agree that the sex scene was really all that bad. Come on… Kyle MacLachlan may have had a horrible hairstyle, but he’s still Kyle MacLachlan! I mean, what girl wouldn’t want to have sex with the great “Muad’dib” in a swimming pool at night?!

The Showgirls sex scene is sheer fantasy and I believe that it should have been named best Hollywood (heterosexual) sex scene for the following reasons:

Unlike the thousands of other sex scenes that look exactly the same to each other - slow, sensual, quiet, lit by candlelight - the Showgirls sex scene will not be forgotten. Just because it is far-fetched-fantasy doesn’t mean that it isn’t good. I mean, aren’t movies made for us to escape from reality in the first place?
