X-rated Muslim Sex-Ed
While the US is moving towards abstinence-only education, Singapore is moving towards X-rated safe-sex education:
SINGAPORE: Students pursuing Islamic religious education at mosques and private centres in Singapore will now receive sex education through a textbook with the words “X-rated” on its cover.
The book will be introduced in November, Singapore’s largest Muslim body confirmed on Monday. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore is putting out the book focusing on sexuality and emotions for Muslim teenagers as part of a bid to jazz up religious instruction.
The book, along with educational workshops, aims at discussing previously taboo issues with religious teachers. It is part of a revamp of religious education for Muslim youth.
Interesting that such a conservative society as Singapore is managing to change so drastically ever since Sex in the City first aired on their boob tubes.
While this uptight taboo-infested society is turning towards a more liberal kind of sex-education, the US is turning against it. North America used to be referred to as the “new world”… what went wrong?

By the way, if you haven’t read Michner’s /Space/, it’s prophetic - written almost 20 years ago, it describes a political situation and society sort of chillingly similar to that which we see happening all around us today.
