Do what you love… get paid for what you hate…

Will work for lingerie

Sometimes it’s hard being a part-time sex blogger, full-time secret agent secretary. While I wish that I could go to more strip clubs, watch more porn, review more sex shops and travel to more cities to do so… I have a limited amount of time, money and vacation days. If only a newspaper would hire me to do research and write articles like this one: Best sex toy purchases of 2005.

Instead, I’ll be flying my self out to the UK and paying for my own sex toys and lap dances.

So, if you ever hear about someone who would be interested in paying me to do any of these things (Ahh… the American dream; to get paid for doing the things you love), go ahead and send me an e-mail. I would even be willing to work for free if all my travel, food, lingerie and living expenses were paid for me… call it “sex blog slavery“.

Say, does anyone out there think Sin Cities’ Ashley Hames needs a female co-star…?

If you’re serious, given your obvious writing and research skills, you might consider writing up a proposal and send it to Playboy or Penthouse as an online content provider. Your blog (and its viewership stats) is an excellent portfolio and market test.

You’re a great writer with a diverse perspective; I think your articles would fly, and a travel & research budget is de regur for freelance travel writing assignments of this sort. Also, Playboy has always had a penchant for a sort of high-class, above-the-raw-porn political perspective; your writing would fit in very well on their print pages, too.

Hell, send it directly to Hugh. You are, in fact, very closely aligned with his writing and politcal persona over the years. He’s really quite political, though it shows indirectly.

The other thing you might consider is setting up your own site around the mskitka.com url; it’s a hell of a good brand name. You’ll probably run into problems over the name, though; the folks that own the Batman characters from the old series would probably sue you. Don’t know the issues; need legal advice there.

But setting up a site and selling advertising or memberships on a sex magazine site is very very doable. Your blog content is a good place to start for the content; Zog can probably advise you on the different approach to pay-per-view vs. free content. You might have to find other writers to help you out, but you’d have a wider footprint: erotica, “true stories,” and the like. It’s remarkably easy to set this up.

Good luck. If you succeed, I’ll openly admit to having pen envy :-) , and I may have one or two articles to contribute. Or, hell, I may just set it up myself, and pay you for content (when the money shows up). Interested?

    LEB-

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I would absolutely adore working with Playboy on a sex blog… especially with the company going digital and publishing their magazine and subscriptions online.

I think your idea on starting a subscription web site is good, but since I currently work with diplomats… I have to watch what I do. I figure it’s a good idea to stay clothed until I can relax into a full-time career. If the blog thing worked and I was happy with it, then I would abort the diplomacy and wouldn’t mind being undiplomatic ;)

I also think it’s better to gain attention by offering a free site… although I’m not against being paid through advertising.

Anyways… I’m off to write a follow-up on this entry. Ttyl.

[…] It’s almost as if Wired News was reading my article yesterday and decided they should comment on payed blogging. The article is very informative, I’m glad to see that if I did get an offer to do this for a company… I could probably get paid enough to quit my day job (thank Zod!). I just hope that someone would have faith in my writing and marketability to hire me for their site. Here is what Wired says are the requirements to hire a paid blogger: You need a talented writer entertaining enough to hold an audience, a consistent publishing schedule, content worth linking to by other bloggers and worthy of press coverage, marketing savvy to sell advertising or enlist third-party networks and, as a culmination of all of this, plenty of traffic.
