Thank Zod It’s Friday!

When I was a kid, TGIF was all about sitting at home and watching Full House, fainting every time John Stamos walked onto the screen and getting creeped out by the Olson twins.  These days, however, I find myself tuning into Friday’s Without Borders on Showcase and enjoying the strange and sexy worlds of borderless pornovision.

What started with stumbling upon an episode of Sin Cities has developed into an “I can’t miss an episode because it’s the sort of thing that (if I had more budget) I would want to podcast!”  Tonight the host of Sin Cities travels to Vancouver and Ibiza… I shall be taking notes on the Vancouver sex scene since Zod and I may travel there for New Years this year.  The thing about the show is that it is made so easily … find interesting things in a city, travel there, then participate and report about it.  The show without commercials is only about 20 minutes, so it’s easy enough to produce an episode as long as your travel expenses are backed by a network.

The show that is catching my attention this week, however, is premiering tonight on Showcase.  Webdreams, a show about the lives of Montrealers running porn sites on the Internet, is set to air aside shows like Sin Cities, Seymore Butts’ Family Business, Kink and Bliss.  When reading about the show, I noticed one personality that stood out: “Dave Angelo, a gay porn star whose site is managed by his wife.”  I certainly had to re-read that line from the article a few times before understanding how the marriage could possibly work.

I find it comical that so much reality TV docudramas are coming out about the sex industry.  While U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is leading a fight to annihilate porn, the more riské entertainment industry is dishing out television shows that titillate.  I guess it’s just another example of a person in office following his own agenda while there are more pressing matters to attend to.

Still, while Christian conservatives and porn producers seem to be the most unlikely to agree, they are finding more and more common ground.  From Mary Carey’s Republican epiphany to halting the introduction of the .xxx virtual red light district, the two opposites are finding themselves more attractive.  I have no doubt that the Attorney General will fail and become internationally renowned as an idiot who dismissed the First Amendment and neglected to prioritize true crime.
