They are messing with our minds!!!
Yesterday in the news, there was an article about how a British court has ruled to restrict the selling of adult films online and through the mail:
Two pornography companies had argued that a law banning the sale of videos by post was an “unjustified interference with freedom of expression”.
But Lord Justice Maurice Kay, upholding a lower court ruling, said it was a legitimate way to help prevent pornography being sold to children.
“We have no doubt that one of the main reasons for the restriction is to ensure that the customer comes face-to-face with the supplier so that there is an opportunity for the supplier to assess the age of the customer,” he said.
The restrictions were therefore “lawful, necessary and proportionate” under the Human Rights Act.
The two porn merchants had argued that videos sent out in the post had effectively been purchased from licensed sex shops that dispatched them, but the judges rejected this argument.
Now today, there is more buzz on the Internet about how the British Office of Communications (Ofcom) is going to allow more sex and violence on British TV:
Television viewers face a dramatic rise in sex, swearing and violence after restrictions on what can be shown were swept away.
The broadcasting regulator Ofcom signalled the dawn of a new permissive era by stating “freedom of expression” was the principle at the heart of its new broadcasting code.
The code will see tighter rules on protecting young viewers before the 9pm watershed.
So, it seems like softcore porn and swearing will be more readily available on television and that the watershed age will be raised from 15 to 18 years old. This is great news for the future of humanity, however, I am unsatisfied with it since at the same time it will be illegal to buy porn through private channels. While Ofcom is trying to liberalize the media and stop policing the public’s bedrooms, this judge has decided to invade British bedrooms in Ofcom’s place.
If I were still living in the UK, this probably wouldn’t affect me very much since I love to go into sex shops and regular video stores and openly rent the latest hardcore gangbang film… but, I do feel bad for the poor sods out there who find it easier to buy porn from the Internet or by mail since it saves them the humiliation of doing it out in public.
Screw the kids… just because that one uptight stick-up-his-ass British judge wishes to restrict porn from children doesn’t mean it will have any effect on those children. Instead British youth will look at free porn on the net or will buy it from another country via the net. What does this judge think that he will prove by placing restrictions on the method of purchasing porn? The only people affected by this ruling are the porn merchants… those poor poor porn merchants.
Great Britain has been ahead of us for years… most households in the UK had widecreen digital (ie. high definition) television sets over 3 years ago! I wonder what the judge thinks about renting porn through digital television… will that be banned as well or will Ofcom continue to allow hardcore porn to be rented/accessed by the touch of a button?
